Artist Statement:

Mona Bayati’s work is a celebration of life and beauty that exists in the culture of her homeland. In her paintings and mix media pieces Mona brings about symbols and ceremonial icons and beauty elements that are deeply integrated in her ancestral heritage as a form of textile design, miniatures or architectural design in Iran.

When your culture, your believe system becomes hazy and unclear to you, when doubt eats up every solid foundation of trust and takes and shakes all the grounds, you grasp to what is real and familiar.

Pomegranates are fruits of my homeland; I have memories of picking them up, squeezing them in my hand for their juice, sharing it in my grandma’s house. This tangible, solid reality is a reminder of love and community in my culture, which can never change nor be dismissed.

That’s how I celebrate and renew my understanding of my culture in my paintings of pomegranate Trees.
